The White Tailed Rabbit:  The little white tailed bunny stood up on its back legs.  His head turned this way and that.  He loved to play in the tall grass near the bright yellow farmhouse.  He hopped in and out of the cabbage patch and munched on the delicious carrots that grew out of the ground in neat little orange rows.

He was a curious little thing.  Now he stood peeking through the grass trying to get a better look at the furry beast.  It had its head down and eyes closed but the bunny was sure it was peeking.  The bunny rabbit always teased him.  The bunny rabbit was smart.

The bunny’s mouth moved back and forth, up and down as it slowly munched on a carrot and watched the great beast lazing in the sun.  The farm hands that worked on the ranch, however, called him Logan.

Today was going to be an especially busy day for Logan.  Although, you couldn’t tell just by looking at him as he lay there basking in the sun.   Soon he was interrupted from his lazy slumber.

“Okay Logan,” clap, clap.

Two claps always meant his attention was required even when he couldn’t always see the hand signal Abigail was giving or hear the command.  But because she gave both the voice command and the hand signal together each time, he always knew what to do.

“Time to go,” she said picking up the service jacket and slipping the brown leather leash comfortably around her right palm.

Logan loved the jacket he wore and had his reasons.  Not because it was a vibrant red, but he loved what he had to do each time he wore it to his training sessions.  It was very special, to say the least.

As they walked down the dirt path towards the car, Logan turned his head and looked at the bunny rabbit.  It was eating a carrot and staring back at him.  Today, the bunny would play and romp around the vegetable garden but Logan had work to do.  He had to go to the city.

Logan barked: I’ll be back….

Escape:  Logan was staring at the screen door.  He had seen Abigail open this door many times.

He sniffed the carpet at the bottom of the door.  He was trying to find the scent of metal.  He knew she used a key to open the door to get in, but that was when he was coming home.  Now he wanted to leave the house.  He wanted to get out.  He had to get out, so he could find Abigail.

He turned to look at the leash hanging on the chair behind him.  He never left the house without the leash. He went back and pulled the leash down from the chair and dragged it to the front hallway.

Now he stood in front of the door and looked at it.  He dropped the leash on the floor then sniffed the bottom of the door again.

Standing on his hind legs, he used his front paw to swipe at the door lock.  It didn’t move.  He swiped again with his left paw this time and then heard a ‘click’.  It happened so quickly that he barely had time to get down from the door and almost fell out through the screen mesh.  A gust of wind blew through the door as it swung open.

Logan stood there for a few seconds before he realized he was free.  Grabbing the leash between his teeth, he darted down the laneway where he quickly picked up her scent.

Raising his head, he sniffed the air then ran through the open gate in search of his beloved Abigail.

Two more sleeps…

The Command:  Logan saw two tires sticking out of the road.  It was confusing because there was no car.  He sniffed the ground and carefully walked closer.  Then, he found her scent.  She was there but he couldn’t see her.

He barked once…
